Rich Moore had a “VERY” Memorial Weekend

On May 23rd Rich Moore of Mt. View started the Memorial Day Weekend off with a BANG!! He caught the newest Trout Record fish- a humongous 14 lb. 3 oz. Rainbow Trout!!  That was the 3rd Lake Record of 2009 which started with Gerri Morrison’s  Record Trout of 13 lb. 4 oz. in March and Logan Bailey’s Record Trout of 14 lb. even on April 18th.  These fish were the highlight of what was a smashing Red Hot Trout season that netted more huge Trout over the 6 lb. category than we have ever seen in a single season. Rich had a little help from what I was told his brother-in-law picked the winning Rapala that Rich used while trolling the middle of the lake. After hooking up his Trophy fish, and reeling it in there was a second where I’m sure he realized he would need a “netter” that he could trust! His son  Nick willingly took the job and successfully captured the prize for his Dad!   Later on the same day Nick Moore was trolling again and caught a 7 lb. 8 oz. Rainbow on a Rapala as well.

On May 24th Lanini’s Birthday, she and her crew caught 9 trout off the shore by the dam on Powerbait. The shoreline in the Open Area is where Pete Leash of Auburn fishes too, he limited out during the week (after the crowd went home)!! Pete had a 6 lb. Trout top his stringer……

Tori & George Hazelwood from Woodland caught 7 trout on Powerbait from shore by the dam. The lake temperature has reached just over 70 degrees so we are not stocking anymore for the year. The fish we have put in are very active in the early morning hours so shore fishing is still quite good. Trollers are holding between 15 to 20 feet down. Dodgers and worms work just as good as lures although most of the reports given to us are on lures. Bev & Les Nason ran out of their favorite Sep’s Rainbow Runners and switched to flashers and nightcrawlers.  They continued to limit out on Trout for the remainder of their stay and even shared their secret with me so I could pass it on. Along with the worm on the hook they would put a “dime size” piece of powerbait on the hook as an added attractant.

On May 23rd we still had some awesome reports of Trout being caught from shore. Eric, Chase, Jack, & Nate caught a giant  6 lb. Rainbow on powerbait off the beach.  A Local Boy, Zachary Degischer of Yuba City hooked a Catfish in Elmer’s Cove using mackarel that weighed 6 lb. 8 oz. A Local Girl, Courtney Bradshaw of Yuba City hooked her 1st Trout!

Cute little Adam Vue helped bring in a 4 lb. Rainbow by the dam using Powerbait.   Dan, Mary, & Johnny of Colfax enjoyed a great day of fishing. They took home a Trout, a Bass, and a 5 lb. Catfish while fishing from their boat near the bridge using worms.  A 6 lb. 8 oz. & a 4 lb. 12 oz. Trout went to William, Adam, & Austin of Sacramento. They fished from the shore using Powerbait! They have “The Touch”!!  So does Daniel, Anthony & Christian-they got 10 Total Trout!!!
