March is on for more trout plants

This week the first of our net pens was released with approx. 1,000 pounds of trout average size (2-1/2 lbs.)  Next week will be another large private plant with half of the load considered catchables and the other half closer to trophy size.  This past week the fishermen said fishing was a real challenge and most of them blamed it on the full moon, saying that during those times the fish feed all night and don’t appear as hungry.   My Grandpa always said “if the cows are laying down, the fish ain’t bitin”!  Everyone has their own theories, if you have any to share, let us know on our Collins Lake Facebook page!!

Ivy Green of Forbestown trolled a Kastmaster and hooked a 6 lb. 8 oz. trout along with four other trout to make her limit of five.   Zach Yetter was fishing with a rubber worm and landed a 6 lb. 8 oz. trout as well.  Canon Moore hooked his trophy trout on PowerBait from shore down by the dam, it weighed 5 lb. 4 oz.

Gordon & Croix Baio, brought Quinn Jenkins fishing and they caught a beautiful limit of trout and they fished near the dam in their boat with live worms.  The biggest Rainbow on their stringer was a chunky 4 pounder!!  Jeremy & Katy Sannar from Yuba City had a fun day fishing for their trout using PowerBait or worms they caught four total.

Another boater that trolled with a Kastmaster and captured a 3 lb. 8 oz. trout is Joe Jones from Vacaville, he caught two total.  Jazlene & Janessa, Jose, & Heather of Olivehurst took home a stringer with three trout, they used pink/yellow PowerBait and fished the shoreline near the dam.  Don Voigt & Tony Buzo helped their buddy Bob in landing a nice 3 lb. trout which he caught on a trolling fly.
