Big trout abound

The Big Trout are still on the bite here at Collins Lake.  Eric Phillips from Grass Valley came back after catching a big trout the week before and he outdid his personal best by topping his stringer of three trout with a huge 5 pounder!  Eric fished both times by the dam using orange PowerBait.

Another 5 lb. Rainbow was caught by Raina Desha from Lincoln, Ca.  Raina & Kirby were trolling  just off the sandy beach with an orange Hoochie/Dodger combo.  Orange PowerBait seems to be the color of the week, Elaine Briefman used it also and hooked a 3 lb. 4 oz. Rainbow from shore near the launch ramp.

Jaceson Smith from Natomas finished his fun day of fishing with a nice 4 pound trout, using worms by the dam.  Just yesterday Eric Liske landed his 3 lb. 12 oz. (22 inch long) Rainbow from the shore and contrary to the best color of the week theory, used white PowerBait!!

Some people I spoke with didn’t catch anything so it’s not like it’s a “sure thing” that if you come you will catch a fish.  That’s fishing (or should I say “catching”)!!  Sometimes you just have to be at the right place at the right time.  The one thing you can count on this time of year through the springtime, shore fishing is just as good as fishing from a boat, mostly due to the water temperature being cool enough for the trout to survive in the shallow waters.
