Happy 4th of July

This week there were fewer fishermen and more swimmers, it was HOT!  The fishermen who did go out and brave the heat caught some nice fish, including Bluegill, Catfish, Bass, & Trout.  Dean Hamilton fished in the far cove near the dam and landed a 5 lb. Catfish which he caught on a minnow (during the day)!  Kenna Travels of Vacaville brought up a Cat that looked equally as big but it didn’t get weighed.  Kenna was night fishing with chicken livers by her campsite.

Theodis Johnson also fished from his campsite but used worms and caught a 1-1/4 lb. Bluegill.  Drew Mostajo & little sister Denise from Vallejo made Denise a Sunfish necklace!! They fished by the bridge with worms and caught a nice big stringer of Bluegill.

A customer testimony: Sam (Esparto, CA.)

Was my first time at Collins since I was a kid. On our first day, we talked to the nice lady at the front desk (that would be me!) and she was happy to pass on the fishing report. She gave us an area to try and the bait to use. Over the next three days, I fished with my wife and mother-in-law. We caught 16 rainbows, including 5 over 16” and 2 in the 3-4 lbs. range. We missed or lost as many fish as we caught. Was a good time and great fishing action.

We trolled small dodgers with 12-16” leader with a spinner hook, anywhere from 35’ to a 20-60 sec let back on a top line. On the hook, we used mini crawlers tipped with bright green power bait. We trolled the 5 mph line from the boat ramp up towards the power lines, tried to stay in 75-100+ feet of water, and at a speed of 1.2 – 1.4 mph.

Just wanted to say thanks and pass on our fishing report so maybe it could help another first timer. Thanks again. Sam

Mitch of Dobbins and Mitchell of Yuba City each caught two Bass around 2 to 2-1/2 lbs. each on worms in the trees they said.  Steve McKenzie of Yuba City also hooked a big Bluegill by site #120 on a nightcrawler.  I think it is safe to say the Bluegill & Bass & Crappie are up in the shallower water now.

Little Tori Fascenda & her Mommy brought up a Trout for a picture and so did Nicholas McCrack en of Sonoma and both were caught in the north end on a worm.  Matt  of Oakland caught his 1st Fish (a Bass 1-1/4 lbs.) on an orange spinner near Goose Island.  Kaylee Wright of Concord hooked a 1-1/4lb. Trout off shore.  Rory & Ryan Smith of Woodland wrapped up the week with a stringer of Trout and the biggest one weighed 4 lb. 4 oz. They were using PowerBait by the dam.
