Mike Garcia was fishing with his son Chris who was visiting from Washington and a bunch of other family members and did they get the “surprise of their life”!!  Mike was using PowerBait and fishing from shore when he hooked a monster trout and he even let little Sammy (his niece) reel it in for awhile.  When all was said and done, the 11 lb. 12 oz. brute broke the only net they had but they managed to get it on shore.  It was a perfect Rainbow Trout, no nicks or scratches at all just pure beauty!!

Wade Whorton & family spent his birthday camping and fishing at Collins Lake.  They had one of the best trips ever, catching lots of trout ranging from 3-3/4 pounds to 5-1/2 lbs. as the biggest ones on their stringer. They troll with worms all over the lake around 30′ down.  Drifting worms by the dam worked for Mike Guerra, he caught a trout almost two pounds.  Ethan Hansard & Logan Lomas used everything in Dad’s tackle box it sounds like!  They caught three awesome trout on different colored Kastmasters.

A great spot to fish from shore in the Open Area is at the Water’s Edge group area.  Mary & Mike Ramon discovered it this week and they fished off the bottom with Powerbait and hooked three nice Rainbows.  Lots of trout are “hanging out” near the 5mph buoys going up towards the bridge.  Calvin Lew followed our advice and trolled there with worms and limited out on trout.  Hunter Zinkl has the best luck, he caught fish three days in a row.  Each day sported a couple of trout along with 6 Crappies and one day he limited on trout.  He was either fishing off the face of the dam with worms or nightfishing off the dock with worms or minnows which is where he caught most of his Crappie.

Jess & Darrin Hutchins brought up a 4 lb. 8 oz. trout they caught by the 5mph zone along with a smaller one.  The Garcia family from Marysville wrestled up a 4 lb. 8 oz. Rainbow on the dock without a net!!  Doris Victorino hooked a 4 lb. 12 oz. Rainbow from shore in the Open Area using PowerBait.

Mike Kolko caught some great fish while here this week, on the last day we took his picture with a limit of trout and the biggest was 2 lb. 12 oz.  He trolled with worms or Needlefish lures and I’m pretty sure they were bigger than Ryan’s fish from the week before!  The Dimeola family returned this year with a BANG!  On their 1st day out, Heidi, Justin, & Caleb caught four total.  Their biggest trout weighed 4 lbs. 4 oz. which they  caught as a result of drifting PowerBait on the east side.

This week brought some BASS ACTION as well!!  Mike Hill used a blue grub in Elmer’s Cove and caught a Spotted Bass.  Jeff Norman of SAC caught a 2 lb. 12 oz. Largemouth along with two others and a Crappie on worms by the dam.  Tyler Tibbles caught his bass from his float tube, using rubberworms for bait.

CATFISH action was great this week too!  John, Moon, & John started the week off with 3 CATS using their leftover dinner for bait!  Tyler Koontz used PowerBait from shore by the dam and was surprised to hook a 2 lb. Catfish.  Homer Murrin & Austin Haugen of SAC hooked a 3 lb. Cat by the dam on a worm.
