We’re in the 70’s

Due to the glorious weather and a lake within inches of the spillway, our business has increased and phones are ringing off the hook.  Since most of our summer help is still in school guess who gets to pick up the slack?  Due to a higher volume of business, things like updating the fishing report gets put on the back burner so sorry for the delay!!

Oh, did I forget to mention that a lot of time is being spent on taking fish photos??  Yes, it’s been a phenomenal spring catch and fish planting will continue for another two weeks.  We also are planning on doing some Fall Fish Plants since the lake filled this year it will be perfect conditions for Fall Plants!

James Key of Yuba City caught a 9 lb. 8 oz. rainbow by the dam on orange Powerbait right at dusk.  Shore fishing is still very good, especially with chartreuse of rainbow colored Powerbait.

Bob & Jim Rich of Napa score 2 limits of Rainbows by the dam on orange/ or green Powerbait.  Mike & his son Jeff run a close second to that, with 9 Trout on orange Powerbait.  John & Marianna Rose of Paradise used a medley of Needlefish until they found the one that worked under the power lines towards the bridge (from a boat).   Marilyn Hughes trolled with worms and keeps a 6 lb. 8 oz. Rainbow.

Richard Thomsen tops the crowd with his 10 lb. “Surprise Rainbow” caught by the bridge!!  It was a huge surprise since he was tossing a crankbait in the weeds by the bridge looking for Bass. He caught & released several Bass already when this monster Trout took the bait.  Richard has been trying to talk his brother-in-law that Collins Lake is the best place to fish (they are Nevadans)!

While the guys are out in the boat fishing, the women are not at the site cooking or cleaning.  Some women are crafty you know, and they are fishing from their site while reading a good book.  Carmen  & Kathy Salazar netted a limit of Rainbows from their campsite, and Laura Anderson of Roseville hooked a 7 lb. 8 oz. Bow in front of her site!  Terry Kunz of  Elk Grove limited out from her site tossing a Gold Kastmaster ( she took a 13 lb. stringer)!  Rebecca Ray of Olivehurst caught a couple of Bows off the beach, all on powerbait!

The William Jessup University Derby was a HUGE success according to Frank Schattner who organizes their annual event here at Collins Lake every year. The winner was Terry Tillis of Orangevale and his biggest fish was a 7 lb. 6 oz. Rainbow Trout caught on a Rapala.

Bill Price & Craig Williams of Concord fished with Ernie Borello trolling the east side they hooked some nice Trout, the biggest was a 4 pounder.  the Welch family of Oroville caught 4 nice Trout  & a Sunfish from the Water’s Edge campground area from shore.  Little Travis & spencer Kugler of San Jose caught the “fishing fever” they are 3rd generation campers to Collins Lake, so it comes naturally!
